Medical bill write off?

I owe 2,200 in medical bill, it was sent to a collection agency which whom i have a payment plan with. They keep calling me to give me a lower payoff , and last week they told me that If i pay it off I can use it as a write off in my income taxes..., Is this true? and will it benefit me? I will pay them either installments even if it takes me years, they reported my debt to the credit report..and overall I just want to get rid of it. Can anyone help me understand of the income tax benefit?... thanks a bunch
