Byp is a safety feature of the hemodialysis delivery system that cuts off the flow of fresh dialysate to the dialyzer and shunts it to the drain. Byp prevents unsafe dialysate from reaching the patient and causing harm. The only drawback that I can think of is it can delay the patient treatment time. Every time the byp mode activate the technician have to troubleshoot ,stop and check the machine.
